Multi-function pens have a bit of a reputation problem. For some time, cramming four ink colors and a mechanical pencil into a single barrel usually meant carrying around something that was thick and unwieldy.
Tokyo-based stationery outfit KAYOU+ wants to change that conversation. Expanding on its minimalist lineup, the brand has introduced the Flicta Standard, a sleek 4+1 multi pen that wraps four 0.5mm D1 oil-based ballpoint colors and a 0.5mm mechanical pencil into a surprisingly slim svelte, metal-accented profile.

Following a late-August preview at Loft, a popular Japanese lifestyle, homegoods, and stationery store, the pen rolls out nationwide across Japan this October.
Real Materials, Purpose-Driven Tactility
Where the existing Flicta Basic relied entirely on clean polymer styling, the Flicta Standard introduces lightweight aluminum accents to give the pen a grounded, premium hand-feel without piling on useless bulk. Clocking in at a modest 27 grams with a 12.8mm diameter, it delivers an intentional low-center-of-gravity balance designed for long writing sessions.

At only 12.8mm diameter the pen feels comfortable to write for long periods of time
KAYOU+ also rethought the physical ergonomics of switching inks for multipens:
Faceted Knock Mechanism:
Instead of standard rounded sliders, the knock section features distinct polygonal facets. The flat angles give your thumb immediate traction, turning color switches into a clean, deliberate click.

KAYOU+ have somehow rethought how the writer's thumb moves when turning the pen to select colors
Textured Non-Slip Grip:
The front section features an embossed, knurled-style texture dialed in slightly coarser than the Basic edition, ensuring a dependable grip that resists finger slippage.

Flicta Standard's non slip grip feels premium and not like it's going it slip off like cheaper pens
Subdued Visual Coding:
Say goodbye to screaming primary colors breaking up the pen barrel. The color indicators on the pushers are deliberately desaturated, leaving a clean, executive look that fits right into a minimalist planner layout.

The Flicta Standard comes in 3 different colors to fit anyone's aesthetic
Standard D1 Refill Compatibility Under the Hood
The secret behind keeping a 4+1 multi pen slim is what lives inside the barrel. The Flicta Standard runs on universal metal D1 (4C) refills. It comes loaded with 0.5mm black, red, blue, and a subtle blue-black ink alongside the 0.5mm pencil mechanism. Because it uses the industry-standard D1 form factor, users aren't locked into proprietary ink cartridges, meaning you can easily swap in your favorite third-party hybrid or gel refills down the road such as the Uni's popular .

From top to bottom: Brilliant White, Champagne Beige, Night Black.
Available in three quiet matte finishes, Night Black, Champagne Beige, and Brilliant White, at ¥2,200 in Japan, the Flicta Standard proves that multi-function utility doesn't have to look like a toy. It’s a sharp, thoughtful addition to any everyday carry setup that demands maximum versatility with zero visual clutter.
